Jesus: The only way

First thing I do every morning is to ‘Thank Jesus’ for the blessings and then I listen to worship music. This morning I was listening to ‘The Way by Housefires’. The lyrics made me write this blog.

I believe You are
The way, the truth, the life

I believe
Through every battle
Through every heartbreak
Through every circumstance

I believe
That You are my fortress
Oh, and You are my portion
And You are my hiding place

I believe
Through every blessing
Through every promise
Through every breath I take

I believe
That You are provider, oh
And You are protector
And You are the One I love! Yeah

I believe You are
I set my eyes on You
The way, the truth, the life
I believe You are

I was stuck on the following line from the chorus. For next few hours, I kept singing it by giving my King all its glory.

‘I believe You are – The way, the truth, the life

In the bible, one of the most powerful and beautiful verse is in John chapter 14.

Jesus said to him, “I am the [only] Way [to God] and the [real] Truth and the [real] Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”

– John 14:6 AMP

John wrote this book to prove that Jesus was the Christ, the promised Messiah (for the Jews) and the Son of God (for the Gentiles), and to lead the believers into a life of divine friendship with Him. The theme of John’s Gospel is the deity of Jesus Christ. More here than anywhere else Jesus’ divine Sonship is set forth. In this verse, we could see that Jesus is the only “way” to God, and he alone can provide access to God. Jesus as the truth fulfills the teaching of the OT and reveals the true God. Jesus alone is the life who fulfills the OT promises of “life” given by God, having life in himself, and he is thus able to confer eternal life to all those who believe in him. Timothy expands this more in chapter 2.

For there is [only] one God, and [only] one Mediator between God and mankind, the Man Christ Jesus

– 1 Timothy 2:5 AMP

Have no doubt, none of us will get salvation other than by bowing and surrendering to King Jesus. In Acts 4 verse 12 we could see this in following way.

There is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among people by which we must be saved [for God has provided the world no alternative for salvation].

– Acts 4:12 AMP

Muslims assert that there is nothing explicit in Jesus’ statement. For instance, Muslims claim that all prophets were the way, the truth and the life since they conveyed the only true religion from God to men. Hence, they were the only way to God since any other message that contradicted theirs would be false. First, it must be stated that Jesus’ words do not simply mean that he pointed the way to heaven and conveyed God’s true religion to man. Jesus was making claims that only God could make and which no other prophet would dare claim. For instance, Jesus claimed to be the Life, a quality which is predicted to God alone throughout the Holy Bible. According to the scriptures, Yahweh is the only source of life and is the only true God. Yet, both Jesus and his followers claimed that Christ is the source of life and that he is the true God.

Muhammad in his hadiths (sayings) claims that God and his Word are the truth. Furthermore, Muhammad affirms that God is both the Sustainer of the universe and the One who can forgive sins, especially Muhammad’s sins. In stark contrast to Muhammad, Jesus never asked for forgiveness but claimed that he is the One that forgives sinners as well as the One who holds the entire universe together. That Jesus was clearly aware that he was sinless. Muhammad, as do all Muslims, always began his prayer with a chapter, Surat ul-Faitha from Quran verse 6.

“Guide us (O’ Lord) on the Straight Path.”

The phrase, “Show us the straight path” has been translated differently by various translators. However, no matter which of the translations one accepts, the thing that stands out is that Muhammad could not be the way if he himself needed to be guided on the path.

As seen earlier that Jesus’ statement that he is the way and the truth and the life does not simply mean that he points men to God’s truth like the other prophets before him. Muhammad’s own words affirm that he could not have been the way, the truth and the life but was in need of the One who is the Life of all flesh. He, like the rest of us, needed the Savior whose name is Jesus Christ the Lord.

I want to end this post on great William Franklin Graham Jr. (Billy Graham’s) video compilation – Jesus is the only way.

  1. Thank you for sharing the truth, and for sharing helpful insight into the Muslim faith. Knowing these things you share helps to better pray and understand those involved in the Muslim faith, and how to share the truth of Jesus Christ to them.

  2. A very good blog clarifying the true power Jesus really has. By distinguishing the Bible with the Quran, you have used your knowledge in how we can use the truths of the Bible to evangelise to Muslims and to allow them to better understand Jesus.
